About me

Cosmin Brendea is a contemporary artist dedicated to visual art. He has already participated in the XII Florence Biennale 2019, the XIII Florence Biennale 2021 and the XIV Florence Biennale 2023.
His artistic path began in Romania, self-taught painter, he devoted himself to painting from an early age. Cosmin Brendea graduated the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, PhD in Economics.

He received various awards and held several exhibitions, such as Galleria d’Arte Mentana, Florence (Italy, 2016), II Biennale Città di Cesenatico, Leonardo da Vinci Award (Italy, 2017), XII Biennale di Roma (Sala del Bramante, Rome, Italy, 2018), OSTEN BIENNIAL FOR DRAWING 2020, LIBER esposizione d’arte contemporanea Galleria Angelica-Bibliotheca Angelica di Roma, STILL SWEET personal exhibition, GALERIILE NOI, Bucuresti, HOMO HOMINI DULCIS EST/OAMENI SI DULCIURI- CONTEMPORAN SPACE exhibition Bucuresti.
Some of his works were accepted to be part of the collection of “Museo degli Artisti Contemporanei del Terzo Millennio” in Santa Marina, Policastro Bussentino (Italy) and collection of OSTEN MUSEUM, Skope N.Macedonia.
Italian historian art critic and curator Antonella Nigro talked about his art: "His paintings are vibrant, with great interest in light and the beauty of nature. Brendea Cosmin proposes a subjective painting, in the sense that this research is never detached and impassive, but translates the sensations and emotions that the real vision or memory arouse in the artist. “ Italian historian art critic and curator Ivan Caccavale talked about his art:” In his oil, the protagonists of the myth are not the demi divinities to which the reader is accustomed, forged according to the principle kalòs kai agathòs: they are instead shown to the bystander in their most human aspect, including the elements of fragility, anguish, disturbance, thus appearing extremely modern. “ The artist develops his own project STILL SWEET in which he integrates sweets into landscapes or abstract compositions following his own metaphysics. Romanian historian art critic and curator RALUCA ILARIA DEMETRESCU talked about his STILL SWEET art project: “Cosmin Brendea paintings are deceptively festive, the sugar colors, the sweetened pastels, glazed with caramel tell the story in a swirl, about the mythologies (re)invented, (re)updated and about the author’s own emotions. Mythological characters and everyday beings, buildings, and landscapes, almost all the themes of universal painting coexist in the compositions created by the artist, they are juxtaposed with static natures with oversized cakes and candies, like fragments of urban architecture.”
The artwork ISZVAN Ab Jove Principium that the artist exhibits at XV Florence Biennale 2025 is part of his project STILL SWEET.
